The Movie Review
It's a long way to Blitz Megaplex in Mall of Indonesia, North Jakarta and it's fiercely hot that day, although still not as hot as Makassar 's sun btw! Hmmm, finally entering the mall, the breezing artificial cool air uplifted my spirit again. And there was this show called Animal Kingdom where parents amused their kids, it's a nice relaxing atmosphere there. And I know a good spot to enjoy the show in a restaurant called Solaria near the Mushalla. After Shalat Dhuhur, I hurried to grab a bite of lunch because of this cranky tummy! Finally..., after a cold sweet lemonade and a plate of Chinese food at Solaria (murah meriah lalala), me ready to see some movies! Kidnapped here I come...

Rumor has it on the net and Twitter claimed this movie to be awesome, well Spain does produce unique taste of motion picture ranging from corny sexploitation movies to super duper chilling ala Rec (2007). But I curbed myself from being overly-enthusiastic or having high expectation so I would better enjoy anything presented on screen.
A family of Jaime (Fernando Cayo) and Marta and her only teenage daughter Isa are is moving to a new luxurious house in a seemingly secluded community in Spain. They are very busy relocating their stuff to the new house with the help of so many workers who freely roaming from one room to another to help the family settling into their house. On the first night, Marta wants Jaime and Isa to have dinner together, but the 18-year old nagging-like-a-baby Isa is desperately trying to go to a party with her crush, Cesar (Xoel Yáńez). While arguing about their daughter's request, Jaime and Marta is stunned and shocked when suddenly three masked burglars swiftly break into the house and leaving them no chance to escape.
The smartest of them, Jefe (Dritan Biba), takes Jaime for a long ride that night to various places of A.T.M.s where they can drain Jaime's credit cards. Meanwhile at home, Marta and Isa are not just sitting there doing nothing, when they have even the smallest chance, they will try to escape especially when Isa's boyfriend, Cesar is knocking on the front door. But unfortunately, one of two burglars at home is a psychopath and seems to enjoy women more than money. What will happen to this poor family?
Kidnapped is a good thriller, it's even a good film as a whole. But while watching it, I was wondering whether the version of Kidnapped which is screened in Indonesia is intact of has it been through some heavy cutting since there are inexplicable scenes... Depressing fact if it is. Although it's a great thing to hear this movie in its original language back at Blitz studio because the performance of the cast is great and it may be very challenging for dubbers to achieve the same level of tension! The movie is an emotional one with the audience could easily relate to the poor family and would feel this urge to see them win AKA Happy Ending, be it either by force or sheer luck. Miguel Ángel Vivas directing style is also different from any other thriller as he tries to eliminate the elements of "It's just a movie" by employing long takes where you can see how the good guys and bad guys interacts without cutting to another scene. It proves very useful to heighten the sense of realism.
It's a good thing Kidnapped AKA Secuestrados lacks intricate motivation of the burglars other than to collect money as a Home Invasion movie like this doesn't need sick philosophical views of why the bad guys are bad. But by putting high degree of kindness and humanity to the bad guys, it backfires to the overall experience the audiences are having by lessening the level of worry in viewers mind. Besides, you have to be very new into this type of thriller (Home Invasion sub genre) to be able to feel repulsed at the bad guys and highly emotional seeing the suffering. If you have seen the likes of The Strangers (2008), Funny Games (2007) and Them (2006), there is basically nothing new anymore. And with the horrible horrible sad ending (even more horrible if it'd been cut), then I would still recommend Ladda Land (2011) --Still playing in Cinemas-- if we're talking about "the terror of moving to new house"
