The Movie Review
Enhanced personality, enhanced memory, and enhanced brain capacity only with a single pill? Now, that sounds like a real secret of all superheroes! :-) Our "hero" in this film can learn piano in 3 days, write a book in 4 days, learn foreign languages in an instant, becomes a medicine expert, and excels in stocks! Pretty much everything you need to earn the money the smart (and easy) way!
I should've watched this movie on Sunday Night because it would've really boosted my spirit and energy to face Monday. But since I still have some time after getting emotional with Hati Merdeka (2011), which I watched from 4pm to 5.30pm, I guess I better continue this day with Limitless on 6 pm. And man I was feel refreshed afterwards!

Essentially Limitless has nothing much going on. The story revolves around a young writer down on his luck named Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper). He is assigned to write a book but has no idea what to write. But then suddenly his unlikely meeting with his ex brother-in-law, Vernon Gant (Johnny Whitworth), turns to be fruitful. He is given this shiny pill called the NZT. And after Eddie swallows that pill he becomes increasingly smart in just 30 seconds. He can use 100% of his brain power! (it's said that normal people only use 20%). Eddie realizes the important of this pill and how it could make his life much more prosperous.
So, when a dreadful incident befalls unto Vernon, Eddie takes over all the pills of Vernon and uses them at free will. Eddie becomes a new man... He finishes the book, and raise to the top with practically no sweat and he also fixes things up with his ex-girlfriend Lindy (Abbie Cornish) and startles her by speaking fluent Italian. But all these good things in his new life starting to change when he notices that a brutal man is hunting him and his ex-wife, Melissa Gant (Anna Friel), is telling him something not nice about NZT. What will happen to Eddie Morra?
Limitless is a so-so action thriller (from action/thriller point of view) with one truly awesome premise. But I gotta tell you one thing, this movie is a wet dream for office workers and other brain-exploiter people! The movie feels a little bit too long. The viewers are being exposed too much of this La La Land of Eddie Morra and for several scenes basically we are like seeing the same message (about how cool NZT is) that's repeated over and over. When Eddie has become a fat cat just like the filthy rich businessman Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro), the story is not as excited as before. The interesting thing about Limitless is how the characters who have swallowed NZT use their mind to solve their problems. For example, when Lindy is cornered and had to evade a man (with the intention to bump her off) in a skating rink, we see some good action. Nevertheless the pacing saves the movie from being boring.
I will watch the movie probably for several times, because there's something so energetic about Limitless that gives energy to those who see it. So in some ways, this is actually one of those must-see thriller movies.
