Lost Boys: The Tribe is a sequel of an 80s vampire film.
But what kind of movie that was continued after 21 long years of time? How swell that movie was that someone still cared to remake or make a sequel out of it? As we all know Vampire movie's existence in this couple of years is almost to the point of fully saturated or to put it simply... bored-to-death! I don't have anything against sequel/remake but something or some movies are better left untouched, if... you don't know how to handle it. Those who have seen the original The Lost Boys (1987) likely have their own pride when watching the super sweet Twilight movies. I guess some of you might even brag 'I lived in the 80s, and The Lost Boys is the best teenage vampire flick ever!' So, the sequel should be something that could beat the heck out of Twilight, right? Let's see then...
"Fangs or No Fangs, Red is still hot!"
The sequel revolves around former pro-surfer, Chris Emerson (Tad Hilgenbrink) and his little sister, Nicole Emerson (Autumn Reeser). They move to a quieter and simpler house belongs to their stingy aunt Jillian due to their parents' death. Hangin' out in their new neighbourhood, Chris got to know his senior, Shane (Angus Sutherland), and it seems that Shane has sets his eyes on Nicole. Unfortunately, what Chris doesn't know that Shane is the head vampire of his tribe which includes Erik (Merwin Mondesir), Kyle (Shaun Sipos), and Chris' own former rival, Jon (Kyle Cassie).
"Got Blood?"
Being invited to Shane's party, both Chris and Nicole succumbs to the temptation of lust. Chris gets into shower with a hot chick, Lisa (Moneca Delain), while Nicole suffers even worse night for she's tricked into drinking Chris' blood for which she becomes half-vampire. Luckily for them, Chris is not alone to bring back their normal life for Edgar Frog (Corey Feldman) is still retains his main job as Vampire Hunter. And now with the help of Edgar and his weapons (which includes garlic bolo), they are about to strike the Vampire Tribe...
"For once, deer antlers are useful"
As some of you might noticed, there is a Sutherland in this sequel, yep Angus Sutherland is the half-brother of Kiefer Sutherland (the original cast of The Lost Boys), you can see him more in a very brief scene in Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guanatamo Bay (2008). And we got also Tad Hilgenbrink from American Pie Presents: Band Camp (2005) and Amusement (2008). While Autumn Reeser is also in another sequel movie titled Smokin' Aces 2: Assassin's Ball (2008) as a very sassy and loud country gal along with Merwin Mondesir. That movie was also directed P. J. Pesce. And apart from the overly stylish camerawork at times, the performance of the cast is decent, I really think that it's the script to be blamed! And to inform you further, the movie is gory, very gory to the level of desperate-attempt-to-shock. All I can say is gory alone could not salvage an already awful movie. But at least we could see Moneca Delain in several nude 'mode' (another attempt to awe you mate!), these sex scenes even though sights for sore eyes, but Tad Hilgenbrink's confused character just doesn't help. Make sure you get the Unrated version for more sights for the sore eyes.
"Edgar Frog is Here!"
Time's changed and people's changed and for some people even music trend's changed. Basically it's a good intention to bring up a memorable movie of the campy 80s era but I really consider this to be a failure. Bringing back the Sax-playing dude and more importantly Corey Feldman is an ok effort for the sake of nostalgic memory, but he's not the same anymore, plus he's alone now. And to see Corey Haim doing cameo at the end of the movie (between name credits) is a good thing too. But I guess it's the story that's a big bummer. It's boring! Boring and boring! For fellow moviegoers who haven't watched the original The Lost Boys, let me inform you that the movie rocks! It's fun, fast-paced, strong integrated storyline, attractive cast and at the same time even funny too. The Lost Boys (1987) has this good combination of creative storyline, cool soundtracks, and very interesting characters.
Lost Boys: The Tribe eventually falls as another direct-to-video horror flick but could still be amusing if you are non-fans of the original. Even so your level of expectation has to be very low, so I suggest that you just skip this movie entirely. I honestly enjoyed Twilight (2008) much more than Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008). While for fans of the original, it's better for you to just rent this movie online to get rid off the annoying curiosity.
