Point Blank was premiered in Jakarta, Indonesia on Saturday Night at 23.30 PM as one of the latest shows that night but of course watching midnite in Jakarta would not leave you alienated from the rest of the city as the streets are still crowded with people, vacant taxis, anak gaol and pretty much those who want to spend the night till morning. Me, spend the night reviewing till morning hehe
There were actually several other interesting movies to choose that night but most of them could be seen in regular hours such as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (2011), Shark Night (2011), Puss in Boots 3D (2011), Machine Gun Preacher (2011) and an Indonesian horror Poconggg Juga Pocong (2011). The only ones that had to be seen in Midnight hours were Point Blank (2010) and an Indonesian famous film Arisan! 2 (2011). Both movies still unavailable in regular hours up until today (Wednesday 30th Nov).
Point Blank revolves around the peaceful life of a male nurse, Samuel Pierret (Gilles Lellouche) who is excited about his 7-month pregnant wife, Nadia Cortez (Elena Anaya). He spoils her and tends to her need, basically he's a regular family man. But fate changes course with him as a man, Hugo Sartet (Roschdy Zem) who is wanted by the police is sent to the hospital where he works. On the still of the night, the enemy of that wanted man drops by and tries to kill him but Samuel saves him on time. Alas! His good deed is not very much appreciated by many parties as everyone then seems to want him dead, him and the wanted man also.
Nadia is then kidnapped and Samuel really fears the worst to his wife and the baby on her womb. And the worst part is the bad guys are including several formidable and ruthless corrupt cops! And Now Samuel has to make allies with a very unlikely man to save Nadia while being headlined on TV as an armed and dangerous man!
"What is so special about Point Blank?" Some fellow action addict fans might question me. The truth is there isn't anything too novelty or new to behold however Point Blank has got this special formula that clearly will make audience glued to the seat. Point Blank is fast, realistic and emotional! A great combination for an action movie that I rarely see anymore in cinemas. It's actually a great feat of combining real regular action with emotional scenes that will make you care for the characters. I mean, I've seen too many movies and I was to point flaws and mistakes, but there I sat munching my popcorn with excitement.
Point Blank AKA À bout portant moves in a brisk pace without making it too rushed. The storyline is kept simple thus making the audience easy to understand, I mean it still needs improvement but I could overlook that. And then the action and the reactions of the characters are so realistic. Good cop and corrupt cop is a regular theme but the way Samuel and Hugo deals with it is very believable. There is no sudden exit point for all their troubles, and there is no sugary sweet male to male bonding, but simply real stuff that people would probably do in their position. And the acting performance of all the cast is top notch! Not a single miscast! The performance of Gérard Lanvin as Commandant Patrick Werner is great, Roschdy Zem is so believable as the vengeful bad guy and the chemistry between Gilles Lellouche and Elena Anaya (of Van Helsing (2004) and Lucía y el sexo (2001)) feels so real. That is why you just can't help caring about their fate. I really recommend Point Blank once it's available in regular hours.
