Review of the Movie

I remember reading in newspapers, several killers confessed that they did the murders because of the "whisper", that told them to do evil things. In this thriller movie however, the killer claimed that the whispers were not fictional. It's highly understandable since he's a member of a satanic cult in New York City, America.

Son of Sam is a story about a serial killer who terrorized the city of NY in the 70s. David is just this normal guy who seems to even have genial nature. But after joining a satanic cult and being chanted excessively over and over in his inauguration night, David turns to be the weapon of satan. His mission is

simple, to kill people. What people? Random. David only has to wait for the "whispers" to tell him what to do.

If you think that a combination of supernatural and slasher film would make such a blast, then you could not be more...wrong. This potentially good film is wasted by the pace that's such a bore. Most of the time all we hear is the chanting of the satan, and it's not that creepy by the way, and jumpy scenes between David walking and David choosing and killing his victims. The dialogue is also very minimum with nothing very memorable or interesting to hear.

The soundtrack is pretty good though and perhaps the best aspect of Son of Sam is that this horror movie is serious in trying to deliver fear to the audience. It should be able to scare young boys, with occasional splattering blood and a scene near the end that could make most of moviegoers cringe. And there is also a scene where the figure of David is lit artistically which makes him seriously creepy. However the simplified version of this kind of trick surely has been tried by most people before, you know, by using flashlight.

Sometimes minimum is maximum, but sometimes minimum means not enough. Son of Sam falls to the latter.
