Coming into this page, some of you might probably thinking "Why haven't I seen this movie on cinema before?" The answer is, of course you will never see it on cinema, because The A-Team: A Nice Place to Visit is an episode of The A-Team TV-Series in the 80s. More precisely, it's the last episode of the first season that was aired in 1983. Movielogy issued this review to accompany the public craze of The A-Team big screen movie that's still playing by the time this review is published. Before this, we had also reviewed the very first episode of The A-Team, Mexican Slayride.
If you already familiar with The A-Team, you know that each episode usually promises a good combination of action and comedy. But this time, it's a little bit different. The story tilts more to the drama side and it's more emotional than most other episodes. No one hires The A-Team this time, but they are traveling to pay the last respect to their very best friend during their time as soldiers in Vietnam.
Col. Hannibal (George Peppard), Sgt. B. A. Baracus (Mr. T), Lieutenant Face (Dirk Benedict), Captain Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and their newest member Amy Allen (Melinda Culea) are driving to a small town in Southwestern America to attend the funeral of Ray Brenner. But arriving on that town called "Barlow Creek", they see nothing but annoying manners of the townsfolk and disrespect. The team discovers the tragic fact that no single man is allowed to attend Ray's funeral. Furthermore, Face, Murdock and Amy even got harassed by the local thugs, the Watkins Brothers. Yes, it turns out that even Ray's death also connected to the Watkins which leaves the widow of Ray, Trish (Joanna Kerns) feeling helpless.
Getting fed up with the obnoxiously despicable behavior of the five Watkins brothers and to show their solidarity to the only person who stood by the A-Team during their unjust trial, Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith and his team will do everything they can to bring justice and peace back to the town where Ray once lived.
The atmosphere is different here guys, it's more emotional and it doesn't contain the total crash boom bang like usual. Hannibal and Face are really stern, B. A. is more refined and Murdock is less insane. The great thing about the story is to choose the right actors to play the antagonists. We could really feel how annoying they are and it's becoming more emotional because in the beginning of the movie, B. A. and the team already promised to Amy not to start any trouble in that town. So seeing them holding their anger is kinda cool. In this episode you can also see the performance of Joanna Kerns before her fame as Maggie Seaver (the mother) in Growing Pains, which is another 80s Sitcom.
But worry not, it's not boring, it still has the car chasing scene, the gun fight, the brawl, with modest amount of explosions. In short, the story is not a bore. This episode may seem just plain ordinary for non-fans or for anyone who is not familiar with The A-Team. But for fans, I really think that this might just be one of your favorite episodes.
