Batman flaps his wings much broader and gone to a place where even Chuck Norris will have a hard time settling in, in this sequel to Batman Begins to Suck (1910), Batman is dead, but worry no more folks, because Batman was resurrected by Joker's lovely laugh and Batman now fancies a new set of wings, implants two more sets of eyes and to top it off, he sports two rows of fangs in his mouth! Batman is awesome!
I am Batman! Whuddap mate?!
Okay I'm kidding! :-) sorry for that out-of-the-blue intermezzo but I had to write it down to amuse myself from this boredom. Ugh, sometimes combining too many famous elements into one feature is a surefire way to make it runs downhill...
The civilized world that we once knew has gone due to exhaustive war and plague which leaves our earth now mostly become wastelands. The people are also now divided into legions belongs to separate different warlords whose ambition is to gain control as wide as they can. Xan (Kyle Walsh) and several other soldiers of a Warlord --who's wearing full body armor (Adam Bucholz)-- decide to desert to become freemen and steal the silver treasure of the warlord to start a new life in a forest where even the warlord himself is afraid to set foot, a place called Shadowlands.
Warlord immediately dispatches Tana (Debra Lopez) and her band of female assassins to hunt Xan, his BFF Cal (Aaron Farb) and some of Xan's followers. Colliding deep in the forest, they initially try to eliminate each other but the unexpected presence of a creepy-looking beast --which Xan calls it as Cyclops-- forces them to a truce. However, not everyone in the group is willing to cooperate. Will they get out of there alive?!
Batman has changed now, Catwoman! So, susshhh...
The Dark Knight ties only to Batman through a supporting actor Bruce Spielbauer (as Trader here). The Dark Knight AKA Dark Nemesis (it's a more fitting title) does not involve any crusade at all as depicted by the movie poster, and the early scenes of the movie suggest it's set in a post-apocalyptic world but all we can see is something more fairy-tale like of castle-dragon-knight kind of fantasy.
This fantasy film is a work of a director behind silly-but-fun indie film titled Guardians (2006). Even though Guardians is far from being the best, but it still does deliver some fun, while The Dark Knight is ultra serious in its execution but it's trying to cover so many grounds that it feels very soul-less. The only good thing about The Dark Knight is the ok costume and the inspiring music score (by Drew Maxwell).
Other than that, it's a confusion --with an early scene mimicking 300 (2006) but unfortunately with graphic almost like 305 (2008) --, especially with the CGI monster which highly-likely won't amuse viewers older than a 5th-grader; over-the-top acting with no comedy relief at all, no element of cheesy B-movies to behold; too long of a running time; dragging storyline with no real gusto and weird visuals and/or color-play that hinder audience from enjoying the cinematography. Probably the filmmakers try to give some atmosphere of fantasy but this time Drew Maxwell might be wearing too many hats of being producer, director, writer, music arrangement and scoring, art director, special effects, matte painting, storyboarding, and concept artist. Distribution of position may be mean as more budget but it may as well be an elevation in quality...
