The Movie Review

One of the best movies to see during the fasting month, for me personally is something that could thrill and is able to at least pump a steady flow of adrenalin. And being a fan of Final Destination's concept of "Death", knowing that the latest sequel is finally available on Cinema sure got me very excited. And even more greater, it's 3D! Just exactly what I needed, another 3D horror film after My Bloody Valentine 3D (2009).

But you know, sometimes a title means more than just a name. It sometimes implies the literal meaning of it. The Final Destination is the Final Destination of The Final Destination series... Hopefully.

A couple of friends are watching a race in the old stadium of McKinley Speedway. Among the audience is a young guy named Nick (Bobby Campo) who suddenly has the premonition of a terrible car crash that triggers a set of disaster, mainly causing fire and some part of the building to collapse, which killed several spectators including Nick himself. Freaking out, his panicking forces his friends and several other people to exit the building including one of the security guards, George Lanter (Mykelti Williamson). Outside, when the argument is heating up among them, suddenly the gruesome accident really did happen right before their eyes...

Afterwards although still in shock and stunned, the survivors try to go on with their daily life. However, Nick is constantly haunted by other premonitions concerning the death of the survivors. And when they really start to die one by one in a gruesome manner, Nick and Lori are working together to figure out how to cheat death before it finally comes to them.

This sequel is hands down the worst Final Destination. The opening scene is the best part of it all, after that this horror film goes downhill fast. Gore is the only thing that makes the audience and horror fans alike feel the adrenaline, although actually that intense feeling is presence only when one of the cast is about to get killed. The rest of the movies is presented in 3B... (Blah blah blah). Obscure storyline, wooden acting, uninteresting cinematography, uninspiring dialogue, everything is very mediocre. I guess the filmmakers only think about how to make the best of 3D technology by throwing any objects towards the audience without thinking about the other aspects of a horror movie.

The worst part of The Final Destination (or Final Destination 4) is the story. There is a story that connects each element but it's so vague ‘n thin that this horror film feels more like a combination of separate episodes of horror TV series. I just glad the jokes are funnier than the ones in Final Destination 3 (2006), especially the hanging scene of the security guard, yeah it's a sick joke I know, but I guess at least some of the audience back in the cinema were laughing. Directed by David R. Ellis who also directed Final Destination 2 (2003), FD 2 was more neatly directed compared to FD 4.

And concerning the extremely graphic gore, I would like to share something that I found equally confusing, not very from where I sit there was a family with two little kids watching this movie. Don't know what the parents were thinking when they made their kids to sit through a movie without solid storyline but with realistic bloody chopped up body parts in 3D... And don't know how the heck could they get their kids into the cinema. Duh! A little note to parents, since this is the most gory Final Destination, how bout taking your young ones to watch other flick?

The acting of the cast is not bad, it's just too bad that the characters of FD 4 are the most soulless characters compared to the other 3 Final Destination movies. Besides... Krista Allen also doesn't show her Emanuelle charm.

In short conclusion, fans of FD that I know in person weren't happy about this movie, and non-fans didn't feel anything about it. 3D is the only life-saver of the death of Final Destination, without 3D? Well, a rent would be enough. With 3D? Go buy the ticket and Watch it! Finally, If Final destination 5 is going to be like this, then again, I hope FD 4 would be the Final entry of the series.
