American Poop. Duh! If you haven't got any slightest idea of the name, you should pay a visit to a nearest DVD shop and go ask for American Pie and stuff. And if you already prejudice of the quality of American Poop as the American Pie (1999) version being dunked into a toilet, then you are wrong and you should at least consider this a rent. But probably, what A-Poop contains will also disgust you, in the end it's your call then. A-Poop is an absolute example of trashy and exploitative teen flick. What is it then that could be a good thing about American Poop?
American Poop (what a name!) tells a story of a young man named Russ Turner (Ross Kidder) who is totally optimistic of his life after college. Soon he discovers that "life after college is crap". None of his plans seem reachable, he thinks he can easily nail a job as a popular TV show host since he has experience before as the host for "I Did Your Mom", but things are indeed more challenging that Russ ever imagine. Moreover, Russ' dream of going out of the town is also in jeopardy. Lucky for him that he still has old supportive friends (which each of them has quite interesting characters). But the star that shines brightly is in the form of Russ' old girlfriend Tara Cartier (Amelia Morck) who comes back to town, and even though Tara has dumped Russ once, still Russ pursues her. Will Russ tackles his life after college and could he win Tara's heart back?
On the level with you all, I really didn't expect to be able to laugh at all, let alone laughing hard till my stomach hurt. But I did! I know that that the storyline still circles around in the teen-sex-crazed community, but the jokes are absolutely there. And it's nice seeing Ross Kidder and his fellow actors could act as if they are really friends. The jokes material revolves around, well, poop, sex, lesbian, and stuff like that. It is totally gross out humour, we got booger, pee, poop, fart and of course vomiting. And by using relatively unknown actors, American Poop feels more realistic than the original American Pie franchise. Ross Kidder and other characters are likable in its own way.
Here's the deal. Simple really, you go rent or buy the DVD with expectation of something as trashy and unashamed to exploit gross factors in a movie, you'll probably have a blast with this comedy flick. But if you push the play button expecting for some good movie which contains smart wittiness and quips or touching romantic scenes, nope you better turn off that DVD player of yours. I myself grab some potato chips and watch this after viewing and reviewing some nasty gory horror flick, and I found myself enjoying American Poop. Oh, btw this movie also comes under the title "The Connecticut Poop Movie" and in some parts of Indonesia, you'll find this under the title "Dorm Daze 4" (from National Lampoon), nope it's false advertising of Bootleg product. American Poop is "American Poop". And for what it is, it's a brainless (totally brainless) fun.
