THE SIMPSONS MOVIE
Storyline:4.5 stars
Cast:3.5 stars
Ending:3 stars
Overall:
4 stars

Spider-pig, spider-pig, does whatever a spider-pig does, can he swing from a web? No he can't, he's a spider-pig, lookout he is a spider-pig... :-) Duh! What a crunkin' weird song but inevitably keeps lingering in my mind. Who would sing such a song? Homer Simpson of course. It's a well-spent money and time watching The Simpsons Movie on the big screen. And don't worry that you would lost amidst the kids, the audience demographic is varied too, many adults and pre-teens alike.

The Storyline revolves around the Simpsons family with Homer as the main star and the main black hole. Springfield, the town where the Simpsons live, is facing an environmental danger with the lake become severely polluted. Lisa Simpson, who actively goes door-to-door to remind the citizens of the danger, finally could make all the citizens clean up the lake. However Homer the troublemaker dumps wastes of his pig into the lake which makes the president Schwarzenegger seal Springfield in a dome. Homer (Dan Castellaneta) has to save the city and win back the heart of his neighbours, but before doing so he must first win the heart of his family, Marge (Julie Kavner), Bart (Nancy Cartwright), Lisa (Yeardly Smith) and Maggie.

Frankly, watching The Simpsons TV episodes back then, laughing-out-loud was quite a rarity, the cartoon is less funnier than other cartoons played on TV, I find several Japanese cartoons are funnier. But Simpsons has these distinctive oddities that are both shocking and captivating. The pace is fast, every character is in a bustle and is almost always filled with clever, witty and even sharp insinuation to the real life.

The Simpsons Movie manages to leave you choked-full of chuckling, in a sense that before you could finish digesting one joke, another smart lines and smart quip come up. It's not just taking comedy as its main genre, but also science fiction, action, drama and even horror. But the story mixes them up nicely, or maybe because it's a cartoon (in 2D) that I could overlook that.

Here are some examples of those cleverly foolish quips: "I want 10,000 tough guys and I want 10,000 soft guys to make the tough guys look tougher"; "Of course I've gone mad with power, have you ever tried gone mad without power, it's boring, no one listens to you"; "Ohh...Why does everything I whip leave me...". And many more of that. Too bad that Itchy and Scratchy don't have much screen time, it's the next best thing in The Simpsons TV series.

The Simpsons Movie probably the brainiest and the smartest comedy cartoon that ever graces the big screen. Well, brainiest cartoon movie so far. Hmm, Sequel...?
