Oh Yeah! This is one truly gripping Movie!

When it comes to seeing Australian motion pictures, there's this excited feeling I had for the reason that for most of the time they always bring something original. Yes, not only Australian movies are good or even great, but at the very least, the story deviates from the current trend! Since the time of Australian New Wave, I've been kinda addicted to Aussie pics. This time, Australian film once more made my reviewing work more easier and interesting, Tomorrow, When the War Began is a movie of must-watch verdict!

And so, if you like suspense or twist then I suggest for you to avoid entirely the spoiler section below or the trailer! I only wished that I had seen this movie in Indonesian Cinemas!

In a small town of Wirrawee, which population only 3871 people, a young energetic 18-year old teenager named Ellie Linton (Caitlin Stasey) is arranging to have a picnic in the bush, that means going to places which kinda the wild but beautiful terrain in Australia. Ellie gathers all her friends, Homer, Fiona, Robyn, including her BFF Corrie (Rachel Hurd-Wood) and Corrie's boyfriend Kevin. And last but not least, Ellie's secret crush, Lee Takkam (Chris Pang). So there are 7 of them and these fun bunch is exploring new territory. Each of them has to face their own difficulties in getting the permissions from their respective parents back home. But the trip may proof to be last time they feel the excitement and happiness, a trip that will change their personality for good...

That's it... That is all the synopsis that I could give without giving the spoiler, but it you insist to know, there's a spoiler section after the film still below. I took care not to reveal it because I personally love it the premise :)

At first you guys would think that these teenagers are in for some troubles pertaining nature? :) or probably they would face a serial killer living somewhere in the bush? Nope guys, you got it wrong! The real terror does not lie in the bush, but after they happily finish their little adventure and Ellie propose a toast to come back to their secret waterfall in sometime to come... They come back to their beloved town only to find it's already deserted! Apparently, the residents have been missing due to a highly abnormal military activities! And these 7 Australians have to do something beyond imagination to survive or probably maybe live long enough to know the truth! The filmmakers manage to present the starking differences of Wirrawee before and after the incidents. From peaceful situation with the serene landscape and with the residents are waiting for the Wirrawee annual show and cheerful situation, to the depressing condition after the incidents with all debris and ruins. If you know a movie titled Red Dawn (1984) and love that, then you'll gonna love this even more too. However, almost entirely the characters and screenplay are definite copy of Red Dawn! There are some stuff can not be beaten by Tomorrow, When The War Began, but there are some stuff that Red Dawn are definitely better.

Tomorrow, When the War Began film still 2

Oh... My my my! What a splendid flick! Editing department has done a good job here and the pacing is also tight. The suspense is well kept with good amount of action scenes which are always enhanced by the convincing performances of all the cast! What is so good about this film is the way the filmmakers manage to always be one step ahead of the viewers in terms of heart-pumping emotional scenes. Why, why and why is the question that keeps on popping on my head. All things contributed greatly to the overall quality of this film. And it is sorta mandatory to mention that the actions scenes are not like the ones you've seen in Hollywood films, there is something very "real" about it because those action sequences are taking places in your neighboorhood. Almost all the characters in this film undergo some kind of transformation and this means another credits to acting department.

This movie is very interesting and intriguing highly thanks to the script! Apparently this Aussie flick is based on a novel written by John Marsden. The characters in this film are like the new (and more more realistic albeit young) GI Joes with their own unique personality blend into one mission! You can even discuss it in the end who's your favorite character? And what makes it better is those characters are so close-to-reality and maybe yourself is similar to one of them :) The only thing left me feeling "disappointed" is knowing that it has a sequel (and it needs a sequel!). I was like "Oh For Crying Out Loud! Give me the sequel!!" Yes fellas, this is one truly inspiring and memorable film! Highly Recommended!.
